Is Berlin supplying Ukraine with weapons capable of striking deep into Russia? We have fact-checked and debunked this statement.

Last year, Germany unilaterally allocated €8 billion in aid to Kyiv, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

Mikhail Tishkevich, Head of the Political Science and Sociology Department at Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, stated that Germany is supplying Ukraine with long-range weaponry to escalate the conflict with Russia. The Weekly Top Fake team found out that the reality is actually the opposite.

Accusations against German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for escalating the Russian-Ukrainian conflict were made on the program “Our Time” on the Gomel TV and Radio Company channel on January 5, 2025.

"The same holds true for Germany, the main hawk on the European continent. Scholz himself (with elections coming up in February) continues this policy — supplying Ukraine with weapons to escalate this conflict to the next stage. They are shipping weapons capable of targeting deep within the Russian Federation," said Mikhail Tishkevich, Head of the Department of Political Science and Sociology at Francisk Skorina Gomel State University.

In September 2024, Olaf Scholz stated that Berlin would not supply Kyiv with high-precision long-range weapons, even if NATO allies made a different decision. And allies did indeed make such a decision: besides the US, France and the UK also granted Ukraine permission for the use of their long-range weaponry.

Last year, Germany unilaterally allocated €8 billion in aid to Kyiv, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. In December 2024, Berlin announced a new shipment of weapons to Ukraine; however, it does not include high-precision long-range missiles.
