Abbess Gabriela of the Grodno Orthodox Convent of St. Mary Nativity called on Belarusians to engage in more charitable deeds in the yuletide season during her appearance on the “Azarenok.Directly” program on CTV January 7, 2025. As an example of piety, she mentioned Alexander Lukashenko, who, in her opinion, never responds with harsh words to those who speak ill of him.
"Have you ever heard our respected, great helmsman of Belarus, Alexander Grigorievich, utter any inappropriate or tactless words towards his opponents, whether in Belarus, Germany, Poland, or elsewhere? On the contrary, the president says, 'These are our neighbors, and neighbors are not chosen, they are given by God Himself.'"
The WTF team found several insulting remarks by Alexander Lukashenko towards foreign politicians.
On March 7, 2023, Lukashenko said, "President Zelensky is just a scumbag! A real scumbag!" when talking about the arrest of an alleged Ukrainian intelligence-linked terrorist involved in a sabotage attempt at Machulishchy airport in Belarus in late February.
In August 2022, Lukashenko remarked about Polish politicians: "If [Polish president Andrzej] Duda and [Polish prime minister Mateusz] Morawiecki have lost their minds, at least the military are not fools."
In late December 2023, Lukashenko insulted former High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell: "This is nonsense. This man is just stupid. You see, he is a fool. He has nothing to do with politics."
Lukashenko also lashed out at Russian journalists:
On August 27, 2018, in an interview with Belarus 1 TV channel, Lukashenko stated, "Nasty thoughts, which are sometimes written about, especially in the Russian Federation by various idiots — I can't call them anything else. <...> While analyzing the media, I wrote down 'idiots in Russia'."
"He is a scoundrel — that's a fact," said Lukashenko about the Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon in August 2021.
Another scoundrel, according to Lukashenko's statement from February 24, 2022 is a Ukrainian senior military official. "He wouldn't bother to pick up the phone. What a scoundrel!" stated Lukashenko.
Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly insulted his political opponents as well.
"And if there's such a boar like this person, the piglets will be stillborn," he said about Valery Tsepkalo, who sought to become a presidential candidate in Belarus's 2020 election.
In November 2020, Lukashenko said the following about Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the opposition: "Recently we intercepted a conference of these dimwits — Tsikhanouskaya and all those runaways."
In July 2021, he called Tsikhanouskaya a fool and a scoundrel.
Lukashenko has repeatedly directed harsh words at Belarusians in general as well. In June of 2020 he suggested "rattling those fat bourgeois so they are held accountable for the people," while discussing layoffs in private companies.
In March 2023, he stated, "I want to emphasize once again, especially to the local scoundrels and those who fled — they have all been identified."
A year later, he said, "Our scoundrels, the so-called conscious opposition who 'splash' their tongues, will stir up the people."
