Did President of Lithuania Suggest Introducing Quotas for Entering or Exiting Country? “ZhS Premium” Misrepresented Gitanas Nausėda’s Words

In fact, the opposite is true in Lithuania: there are too many arrivals.

The challenge of population outflow in Lithuania is so severe that even migrants do not solve it, the Telegram channel "ZhS Premium" said. The Weekly Top Fake team found out why this statement contradicts reality.

The post about the catastrophic shortage of people in Lithuania was published by the authors of the pro-government Telegram channel “ZhS Premium” on September 4, 2024.

“Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda suddenly realized how significant the emigration from his country is and began sternly addressing everyone on this issue. He says that something needs to be done to stop this trend, to introduce some kind of quota system.

In 2023, Lithuania lost around 22 thousand people. Moreover, not only locals but also immigrants, whom they had previously relied on, are leaving the country,” the post states.

Additionally, the authors published a quote from the President of Lithuania: “It is really time for us to rein in the horses. [...] Immigration is a pressing issue, and, as you can see from Germany’s example, it can even affect election results.”

In fact, the opposite is true in Lithuania: there are too many arrivals. According to official statistics, in 2023, almost 22 thousand people left the country, but 67 thousand arrived. That is, the population growth was 45 thousand people.

Gitanas Nausėda stated that uncontrolled immigration poses a threat to national security, so he supports the introduction of a strict quota system for immigration.
