Belarus’s economic resilience amid sanctions was highlighted in a recent broadcast of the Belarusian state-run CTV channel’s show “SASS is Authorized to Declare” on December 15, 2024. During the program, guest Alexey Belyaev, dean of the journalism faculty at Belarusian State University, stated:
“But sarcasm aside, Belarus is indeed a leader in the Eurasian Economic Union when it comes to salary growth over the past year, despite all the sanctions.”
While it is true that real salaries in Belarus increased by 13% in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the previous year, this figure dropped to 9.5% by October. Despite this growth, Belarus's nominal average salary remains among the lowest in the EAEU.
From January to September 2024, the average monthly nominal salary in Belarus was reported at $690, placing it just above Kyrgyzstan, which had an average salary of $409. In comparison, Russia leads with an average salary of $928, followed by Kazakhstan at $854 and Armenia at $713.
