Political analyst Vadim Yelfimov discussed accelerating inflation in the United States and an impending economic crisis with Belarusian Minister of Culture Ruslan Chernetsky on Radio-Minsk and the YouTube channel of the Minsk-Novosti agency on February 13, 2025.
"The statistics for January have come in. Of course, not the Trump administration's statistics, but rather Biden's. Inflation there is increasing by 4% per month," Yelfimov stated.
"Of course", agreed Chernetsky.
"In other words, this is the inflation that is occurring within America," the political analyst continued.
"It's been ongoing since 2021 and now it's snowballing. And it will continue to accelerate because that's normal," added the minister.
The annual inflation rate in the U.S. reached 3% in January 2025. And the monthly growth of consumer prices reached 0.5% compared to December 2024. After the coronavirus pandemic, inflation in the U.S. accelerated, reaching 8% in 2022, the highest level in the past 40 years. However, it has been decreasing since then, dropping to 4% in 2023 and to 3% in 2024. Despite the current increase, the Federal Reserve's forecasts for 2025 indicate a gradual decline in inflation, with a target rate of 2%.
Annual inflation in Belarus for 2024 was 5.2%, higher than in the U.S. However, Belarusian officials cite this figure as an achievement:
"Inflation. For two consecutive years, we have had one of the lowest rates in the region at 5.2%. And for the current year, the goal is also to stay below 5%," stated Minister of Economy Yuri Chebotar on February 19, 2025, during a broadcast on the NEWS.BY channel.
